Gold Canyon Pickleball Club has been told by park management we will have four courts at the tennis courts for the next season so the Executive Board would like to establish a Competition and Development Committee to help come up with some new events to fill the courts beyond our current Round Robin schedule.
(FYI, it’s highly unlikely the new courts will be permanent for the next season as the last time we heard the CapEx budget had not been approved.
We envision clinics, drills, new competitive events and possible ways for players to get ratings so they can move up in our round robins or participate in outside tournaments. They would also work with round robin coordinators. The committee would filter ideas, come up with their own ideas and schedule events.
The committee would be up to 5 members, preferably with a representative of the four levels of play recognized by the GCPB Club — novice, intermediate, advanced intermediate and advanced. We would like to see someone who would like to be involved in the round robins, the regularly scheduled drills popularized by the Carters (who will share their Play & Learn expertise), maybe ratings, working with those interested in the APL leagues, finding new competitions like ladders, etc. If you have interest in one of those areas, step up.
Meetings would be on an “as needed” basis. If you would like to be on the committee, contact any board member. In any case, be thinking of things you have seen or would like to see that would enhance the pickleball experience at Gold Canyon.
(This committee is not in charge of our in-house tournaments at the main courts.)
