Our Story
In just 15 years Pickleball has exploded at Gold Canyon Golf & RV Resort.
The first Pickleball court was built in 2009 with a second court being built in 2010. The Gold Canyon Pickleball Club was established in 2011 with 28 members, initiated by Pat Parkin, Pete and Sharon Bemis and Clarese Epsese.
In less than two years, the club membership doubled and Court 3 was built. In 2013-14 Court 4 was constructed and membership surpassed 100.
Over the next six years, GCPC (Gold Canyon Pickelball Club) became a well-oiled machine with in-park tournaments, about one a month, with extensive programs for beginners and skill development as well as the development of the schedule, allowing designated time blocks for all playing levels.
By 2019 there were 235 members. By the beginning of the 2020-21 Season, three more regular courts were added, bringing the regular Pickleball court number up to seven courts. One of the tennis courts was striped for two more Pickleball courts, bringing our total number of courts up to nine. These two courts are used mainly for our Advanced and Intermediate Round Robin Sessions.
On Nov. 6, 2020, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of these last courts. Despite membership taking a COVID-19 dip, Pickleball was a mainstay for our Winter Residents that year.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country and Gold Canyon Golf & RV Resort is a part of it. As our membership grows, (261 members in the 2022-2023 Season), we are constantly seeking ways to accommodate more players and providing more learning opportunities to our members. Please consider joining GCPC and getting involved in the fun!
